The new jewel of Český les: luxury accommodation, outstanding cuisine and the magic of nature
Our editor Veronika recently visited the newly opened Resort Český les in the picturesque village of Železná u Smolova to find out what this latest addition to the Czech resort scene has to offer. It was clear on arrival that this is something out of the ordinary. And after a few days spent in this enchanting place, there is nothing left to say but that Resort Český les exceeded every expectation.
Luxury accommodation with attention to every detail
“The moment I arrived at the resort I was struck by the way modern design has been brought together here with the calm and beauty of the surrounding countryside.” The resort was created through a radical reconstruction of two historic buildings, a First Republic school and former military barracks. Today you will find 52 spacious, stylish boutique studios and rooms here, offering the highest level of comfort.
The rooms are done in a minimalist spirit with an emphasis on natural materials such as wood, metal and glass. Every detail has been thought through so that guests can experience genuine calm and relaxation. “I particularly appreciated how airy and spacious the rooms are, allowing you to rest completely after a day spent exploring the surrounding countryside.”
Cuisine that delights even the most demanding guests
One of the main draws of Resort Český les is undoubtedly the Hvozd restaurant, led by head chef Václav Hřibal. His menu is a genuine experience for the taste buds. Hvozd focuses on fresh ingredients from the local forests, its own herb garden and the nearby Železný pond, which ensures that every dish is not only delicious but also authentic.
“The fresh fish and the venison goulash were prepared with the greatest care and respect for the ingredients. For a sweet finish I chose the apple strudel, and I have to say I have truly never eaten one like it.” The culinary experience was heightened not only by the outstanding flavours but also by the beautifully appointed restaurant interior, dominated by motifs of the fauna of Český les crafted by local artisans.
If you fancy something more exclusive, head to the Kotelna bar, which specialises in whisky and champagne. It offers the complete selection from maison de Venoge, along with carefully chosen Czech and French wines and craft ciders from the Kolowrat orchards. Beer lovers can also try a special brewed exclusively for the resort, the Nikl wheat beer from the Proud microbrewery in Plzeň.
The magic of the surrounding countryside: forest theatre and mushroom picking
The surrounding countryside has plenty to offer as well. The resort is encircled by vast forests that positively invite you to walk and explore. “On my walks through this pristine landscape I came across countless mushrooms. One of the biggest surprises for me, though, was the forest theatre held on the German side of the border. The natural stage formed by the woods and the surrounding landscape was absolutely unique, and I enjoyed an unforgettable cultural experience.”
Wellness as an oasis of calm and relaxation
“After a day full of experiences and exploring the countryside, I treated myself to a well-earned rest in the hotel wellness centre.” Resort Český les offers everything you could wish for: a sauna, a steam room, an infrared cabin and a wide range of massage therapies. The wellness area is designed so that guests can forget their everyday worries and immerse themselves fully in a world of relaxation.
