Cross-country skiing in the heart of silent forests
Český les is one of the last corners of the country where you can still experience true silence and an untouched winter landscape. Year after year it offers cross-country skiing enthusiasts a varied network of trails differing in difficulty and in atmosphere.
Cross-border trails around Čerchov and the German Gibacht near Althütte connect the Czech and Bavarian landscapes and, thanks to their varied profiles, work equally well for recreational cross-country skiers, and for sportier tours. The popular Capartické louky (Capartice meadows) tempt you with easy-to-follow loops, ideal for families and for a brisker pace alike, while the Pleš plateau is a true paradise for anyone who loves wilder terrain, open plains and views you never forget.
During a single visit you can also make use of the Silberhütte ski centre, which combines nine perfectly groomed loops for classic and skating technique, from 2 to 12 kilometres long. The shortest of them is floodlit for night skiing, and when natural snow is scarce, snowmaking is a matter of course.
