In Český les there are plenty of opportunities for swimming in the open countryside – ponds as well as small biotopes, including on the German side, where they are used a great deal. Most of them are not maintained in any way and are therefore intended above all for true lovers of wild nature. We offer you a selection of tips for places where the infrastructure is complete, so that you can easily spend a whole day by the water in perfect comfort. Choose from the most beautiful natural bathing spots and modern water parks on the Czech and the Bavarian side of the border alike, and enjoy the perfect refreshment!
ESLARN – ATZMANSEE
A leisure centre with swimming in a natural biotope pool, a bistro, table tennis and tennis courts. From midday the bistro also serves refreshments. Entry to the grounds is free and there is plenty of parking. It is the ideal compromise for anyone who is not looking for a large public lido but still appreciates proper facilities. Open from April to October.
WAIDHAUS -"BÄCKERÖD"
This popular open-air leisure complex lies just a few minutes' journey across the border and on sunny summer days it ranks among the renowned spots for family refreshment. A great advantage is the clean, chlorinated and pleasantly heated water, thanks to which bathing is comfortable even on cooler days.
The complex has something for every age group – from the swimmers' section through a separate zone for non-swimmers to a children's pool with play features. The main draw for children is a splendid water slide, while adults will appreciate the spacious lawns for sunbathing and the pleasant bistro with refreshments. The pool is usually open from the middle of May and pleases visitors with very friendly, rather symbolic admission of around 5 EUR for an adult.

HORŠOVSKÝ TÝN – THE TEJNO SWIMMING SPOT
A modern, well equipped open-air swimming complex surrounded by greenery, with plenty of space and water attractions. You will find water slides, water spouts, a beach volleyball court, table tennis, a children's playground and a restaurant. It is open from June until the end of September. You can park right by the complex and admission is 100 CZK per adult.
SILBERSEE
It is a superb choice, because it lies almost as close as Bavarian Eslarn or Waidhaus. It offers wonderful open-air swimming in natural surroundings, grassy beaches and a pretty circular trail around the water.
It has beautifully clear water, spacious grassy beaches, a gentle entry into the water (great for children), a children's playground and the chance to rent a paddleboard or a pedal boat. What is more, a pleasant 6km trail runs around the lake, so a swim can be combined perfectly with a walk.
SYCHERÁK
Sycherák is a legendary classic! Especially for locals and cottage owners from all over the Bohemian Forest.
This is classic traditional natural bathing in a forest pond – sandy as well as grassy beaches, a pine grove, a gentle entry into the water, a rental point for rowing boats and pedal boats and a wonderful retro atmosphere with a kiosk for lemonade, beer and chips. Made for families with children or for easy-going summer relaxation.
WEIDEN – WEIDENER THERMENWELT
The first-class water world in Bavarian Weiden is the perfect destination for family fun and complete relaxation, whatever the weather. This magnificent complex beneath a glass dome will enchant you with its tropical atmosphere and palm trees, where a wild river, a large leisure pool with waves, salt water and a 105-metre water slide await, thrilling adventurers big and small alike. For those who prefer to unwind there are bubbling whirlpools and an extensive sauna world with its celebrated ceremonies.
In the summer months an outdoor sunbathing area with grassy beaches and sports pitches opens as well, so you can easily enjoy a full day's programme here. Good facilities are on hand too, with a restaurant and paddling pools for children.
